Hillsborough Neighborhood Concerns Meeting

Fullerton Elementary School Tuesday, October 20th at 6:00

In light of recent incidents where suspicious men have approached children in the neighborhood we wanted an opportunity to share information. A meeting has been called by the neighborhood schools and the Hillsborough Association of Land Owners Board Members to discuss child safety issues. We will discuss ways in which we are trying to address neighborhood safety concerns to keep our neighborhood safe.  Some things to be discussed are; Neighborhood watch, Mcgruff houses, security patrols, school safety procedures, Omaha Police support, safety tips for parents to share with children and community involvement.

In attendance will be Omaha Police Department, Officer Rick Mahoney (School Resource Officer at Buffet), Signal 88 (area security for Hillsborough Neighborhood), , Dr. Renae Kehrberg (Buffett Principal), Dr. David Alati (Asst. Principal Buffet), , Mr. Craig McGee (Fullerton Principal), and Hillsborough Association Board Members.

Public Can Also Access Reports Of Crimes Near Homes

Omaha police are using a Web site to track crime trends in the city, and the public can take a look at the results, too.
Crimemapping.com shows what crimes took place in a specific area over the past week or month.
Omaha police said they hope it will generate more tips to help catch criminals. Residents said they hope it will make their neighborhoods safer.

Solicitors

All door-to-door salesmen must possess a permit. At any time you may request to see the permit issued by the City of Omaha. Per the city, door-to-door sales must end at 6:00 pm. If you feel a solicitor is not legit, you have the right to report your concern to OPPD.

Garage Door Alert

The Northwest Precinct has seen an increase in theft from sheds and garages. Many times the structures are left open with everything inside available to the thieves. Please be mindful of the possibility of thieves in  your area and keep you doors closed and locked to help prevent these thefts. Also, please contact 911 if you see people acting suspiciously in your neighborhood. Lets all work together to keep a safe neighborhood. Thanks!

Safety Check

We received an email from a neighbor who reported that his 15 year old daughter was walking along the north side of Fullerton Magnet School when a man approximately 40 years old pulled up and initiated a conversation with that made her very uncomfortable.  The man quickly took off when the friend the girl was meeting came up to her. They reported the incident to the police.
If we get any additional information like a car description or the description of the man, we will pass it on to you.  We just wanted you to know this much now and to stress to your neighbors that now that the weather is nice and the kids want to wonder around the park or the school, they are safer if they are with friends and not alone.  There is safety in numbers.
